Driving Growth through Integrated Marketing
This blog presents information, techniques and guidance on how to optimize marketing for your business.
As a kid growing up in Northern Illinois, I viewed our annual July 4th holiday vacation as the middle of our all-important summer break with the start of the school year coming into sight on the horizon. ![]() This year, I celebrated the 4th and the mid-point of 2019 with family and close friends vacationing on a cool water lake in Wisconsin. It almost seemed cruel that Summer was already halfway done, and the good warm weather had just started. As a resident of a northern state, this mid-point means fall and winter are in sight, out on the horizon. Just walk through any store and you are already seeing fall and winter fashions. The thought of the cold season to come gave me a shiver. In years past, as an executive with large technology and services companies, the mid-point of the year kicked off the start of the planning process for the year to come. Ideally a six-month window was required to adequately review the health of the business, create a strategy for the coming year, put together a plan to operationalize it, and bring on the resources needed to hit the ground running on the first business day of the new year. We strove to answer questions like:
I know it may seem out of place to begin planning for the upcoming year so far in advance. However, this is a great time when the business is less stressed, and the crunch of year-end activities won’t get in the way. It’s a great time as you should have a very good idea on how your current strategy and plans are working for the current year. It is also a pretty good time as your teams are refreshed from summer holidays and the pressure is not as intense as it will be in just a few months closer to the end of the year. 2019 has been a good economic year for US businesses. Interest rates continue to be low. Employment is at all-time highs. Inflation is seemingly nowhere to be seen. Confidence is high that economic growth will continue into 2020 and beyond. How is your business doing? Are you meeting your plan and forecast? Are you growing? Now is the time to begin your planning for 2020. It's the time to ask these questions and work to better understand the changes needed to drive growth in the coming year.
